Prescription Drug Coverage with Medicare

The Trust provides a Medicare group-sponsored prescription drug plan (excluding some HMO plans) offered through Optum Rx.

The benefit remains similar to the non-Medicare prescription drug coverage:

  • Three-tier copay structure
  • 90-day mail order program
  • Requirement of prior authorization for certain medications

Newly eligible Medicare members will receive a new, separate prescription drug ID card. It is important that you present your new prescription drug card to your pharmacy when filling prescriptions after receiving your new card.

"Extra Help" Program

Don't leave $4,000 a year on the table when you pay for your medications. That's the value of "Extra Help," a government program for low-income seniors under the Medicare Part D program. More than 2 million people are eligible, but haven't signed up.

The Trust works with Public Consulting Group, Inc. (PCG) to assist members who may qualify for Extra Help from Medicare. Medicare beneficiaries can qualify for Extra Help with their Medicare prescription drug costs. To qualify for the Extra Help, you must be receiving Medicare, have limited resources and income, and reside in the United States.

PCG can help you file your application for Extra Help. Pursuing Extra Help is completely your decision. It is our intent to simply offer a free service to assist members with the process. If eligible, these benefits may provide you lower copays for your prescription medications.
